Nanlaishun Restaurant was created by Mr. Shi Kunsheng in 1937. It was well-known in Beijing for sauteed, grilled, and instant-boiled dishes. In February 1999 it was relocated to No.12, Nancaiyuan Street outside Daguanyuan Park, or Grand View Garden, a replica of the Daguanyuan garden in the Chinese novel A Dream of Red Mansion by Qing Dynasty writer Cao Xueqin (1715-1763). Nanlaishun is a typical Beijing halal restaurant that serves nearly 100 authentic snacks. Its snack banquet is described by foreigners as “exquisite and unparalleled”. After it moved to the new site, the restaurant added two new dishes to its menu. They are Gualu roast duck (duck roasted over the fire) and sea food, which have got a thumb-up from gourmets.
